Actress Salma Hayek said her dog, Mozart, was shot and died at her ranch in Washington state.
The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating the dog’s death, KING 5 reported.
Hayek, 49, went on Instagram over the weekend, saying that the dog was found dead a week ago with “a shot close to his heart.”
“I am hoping that the Washington State authorities do justice to this wonderful dog whom in 9 years never bit or attacked anyone. He loved his territory and never strayed away…he was the most loving and loyal companion. He didn’t deserve a slow and painful death,” she added.
The report was made Feb. 19, while Hayek was in Los Angeles.
Mozart, 9, was described by Hayek as “loving and loyal” and “wonderful.”
The Sheriff’s Office said that a pellet fired from a pellet gun went between the dog’s ribs and hit an artery, USA Today reported.
