ROCHESTER, New York—Having seen Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company at the Rochester Auditorium Theater on Feb. 19, Diane Baltadonis, a small business specialist at HSBC Bank, was thrilled with the production that’s travelling the world showcasing traditional Chinese culture.

“It was my first experience of the show. The colors were vibrant, beautiful, it was nice that the story was told along the way. It was a great experience,” she said.

“I learned more of an awareness of the Chinese culture, something that I didn’t have exposure to in the past.”

“Very, very nice. I enjoyed it. Quite different,” said her friend Margaret Turnquist, manager of a school cafeteria, now retired.

“I was fascinated by the background,” added Ms. Turnquist, referring to Shen Yun’s signature animated backdrops that interact with and complement the pieces playing out onstage.

“The translation was very nice too, to be able to understand the meaning of the music. It was a wonderful educational experience to know the stories and the movements of the dance. It was very helpful.”

“The music was great. I appreciated the live orchestra. It was nice to have that,” she said.

“The dancing was beautiful,” said her friend, adding that the handmade costumes were “magnificent.”

“The skills were very nice, and we’re going to go home and try some of the moves tonight,” said Ms. Baltadonis, as both laughed.

“I’m not going to be there to pick her up,” said Ms. Turnquist.
