Country star Miranda Lambert is stepping into a new musical chapter with “Crisco,” a 12-track album that pairs her roots with the rhythms and theatrical spirit of disco.
The project was released on Oct. 2 and marks the singer’s latest full-length release, as she embraces a lighter, more playful side of her songwriting.
After years of building a catalog around heartbreak, independence, and hard-driving country anthems, Lambert says the new record reflects a different place in her life, one centered on enjoyment and creative freedom.
“I’ve spent a lot of my career with fiery songs and heartbreak songs and this record just has a lot of joy on it, and I think that’s just where I am right now in life, too,” she told The Associated Press.
“I’ve just never explored that before. I really am a Merle Haggard girl, you know what I mean? I just love three chords and the truth,” Lambert said. “I just felt like I, maybe at this point, earned the creative freedom to try something fun and try something different.”
The album’s title track immediately sets the tone—a combination of country instrumentation and storytelling with dance-floor energy.
“Snakeskin Boots,” the opening track, features Ella Langley and leans into a cinematic Western atmosphere. Other songs, including “Cowgirl Curtsy,” “Two Things Can Be True,” and “Till the Going’s Gone,” move between traditional country storytelling and the album’s broader production.
Notably, Lambert co-wrote and co-produced Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas,” which recently made music history as the longest-running No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
“I’m thrilled that ‘Choosin’ Texas’ is a country song and the world is loving it,” Lambert said. “That makes me happy. I’ve dedicated my entire adult life to country music so that alone is like so much happiness for me.”
“I think the reason that we are drawn to each other is because I see a lot of my young self in her,” Lambert boasted of Langley. “She’s definitely a pistol. She’s fiery. She knows exactly what she wants. She’s a true artist and songwriter and she’s an inspiring person to be around.”
Lambert also reunites with Chris Stapleton for their collaboration hit “A Song to Sing.” The pair previously earned two Grammy nominations in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category.
In celebration of her new album, Lambert and a 12-piece string section performed a sold-out show at Nashville’s new Truth venue on Oct. 1.
Her next Album release show is scheduled for Oct. 6 at Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth, and Amazon Music is set to stream the Nashville performance on Oct. 7.
