Shen Yun Performing Arts took the stage at Swansea Building Society Arena in Wales on March 25 as part of its 2026 UK tour.

Among the audience was Cheryl Philpott, who is the Lord Mayor of Swansea.

“It blew me away. Absolutely blew me away,” Ms. Philpott said. “The dancers, they’re so graceful. Their feet were like feathers on the floor.”

Shen Yun’s dancers and musicians bring ancient legends and historical characters to life on stage, accompanied by a live orchestra, traditional costumes, and a digital backdrop. Shen Yun has a mission to revive the essence of China’s 5,000-year-old culture, before communism.

“We know that China has a very rich culture and history,” said the lord mayor. “I think the fact that you were bringing back that rich culture and history through the medium of song and dance is wonderful. And the stories about kindness and all of the philosophies, and the ending. And, obviously, there is that feeling of yes, there is something bigger out there, isn’t there?”

Shen Yun artists also depict stories on stage that are inspired by modern-day events under communist oppression. This is one of the reasons why Shen Yun cannot perform in China today.

“Kindness overcomes everything, doesn’t it? Kindness and humility overcome everything. If you can all show this to the world, then the world would be a much better place. And your story portrays that, doesn’t it? It portrays it so well,” she added.

She said that Shen Yun inspires people to be kind to each other so we can all live in a better world.

“If everybody could get on, and everybody could be kind, then we will all end up in a much better place,” Ms. Philpott said.

The lord mayor presented a certificate of appreciation to one of the dancers representing Shen Yun as a thank you to the entire production for their hard work and dedication. The mayor said she felt “awe-struck” by the performance and said it was “so professional”.

Shen Yun will return to theatres across the UK in 2027 with an all-new production to revive China’s authentic culture live on stage.
