Nithya Raman Advances to LA Mayor Runoff; Crew Rescued After US Helicopter Crashes Near Hormuz | NTD Good Morning (June 9)

Los Angeles City Council member Nithya Raman has advanced to second place in the June primary election for Los Angeles mayor, securing a spot on the November ballot, where she will challenge incumbent Karen Bass. The Associated Press called the race on Monday with 93 percent of the votes in. Early election results favored conservative candidate Spencer Pratt, a former reality TV star, but mail-in ballots counted days after the election propelled Raman to second place.

President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that two U.S. helicopter crew members were fine following their rescue by a U.S. Navy drone after their Apache gunship went ‌down in the Iranian-controlled Strait of Hormuz on Monday. It was not immediately clear whether the Apache had been shot down by Iranian fire, experienced mechanical failure, or encountered another problem.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ​said on Monday that ‌19 additional medical schools pledged to require at least 40 ​hours of nutrition education, ​or an equivalent competency requirement, ⁠for students starting in ​fall 2026.
