A vibrant display of color, music, and classic Chinese dance, burst onto the stage in the south of France this week. Shen Yun Performing Arts arrived in the French city of Aix-En-Provence on March 6, taking the stage at the Grand Theatre de Provence.
Some theatergoers like Patricia Duval, a manager, explained they made hours-long trips from other regions to see the performance after they couldn’t get tickets elsewhere. She said she “took four days off work to come here to Aix-en-Provence because I hadn’t been able to get tickets to see the show in Paris.” She added that she “had a wonderful time, it’s full of color, music, twists and turns. Outstanding acrobats and dancers.”
Antoine Fanti, a state employee, said that he “was really interested, so we took the boat over to see the show. Really a sublime show, the dancers are well-trained, it’s really extraordinary, an extraordinary show. We were in awe from start to finish.”
Y-lan Guidicelli, a law student at Corsica University said that “the show was great. They are well trained, it was incredible. Frankly, everything was great.”
Through classical Chinese dance and music, Shen Yun shines a light on the roots of Chinese culture and spirituality. A culture ancient people believe was inspired by the Divine.
“It’s a dream, and brings a connection with the Heavens. That’s what Shen Yun brings out, this link with the Earth and the sky, “ said Dominique Repellin, a retired doctor. “We’d heard a lot of positive, very positive things about the show, and I have to say we’re not at all disappointed.”
Miss Duval said: “I felt emotion that told me about the history of China, their traditions, things that really move the heart. I don’t know how to express it, but in any case, a deep emotion that reminds me of my childhood.”
Anastasia Bouchet, a co-owner of Soleil des Neiges, said: “It’s magnificent. There are no other words, it’s very, very emotional. It’s impressive.”
Giles Bouchet, a co-owner of Soleil des Neiges, said Shen Yun had a “very soothing energy. You’re completely absorbed by the show, absolutely. It’s really a beautiful, beautiful thing.”
Marie Amiot, a speech therapist, said: “you can imagine the hours of work that go into it—the precision and synchronization of the dancers. It’s very moving because you think of all the work that goes into it, and all the passion and heart they must put into it, to achieve such a result.”
Shen Yun will return to Aix-En-Provence on April 10, and is set to perform seven shows throughout that week.
