LAS VEGAS—Kenny Broderick and Fiona Broderick saw Shen Yun Performing Arts at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts on March 5.
“I loved the show. We both loved the show. It held our interest the whole time. It had variation. The orchestra was amazing. The dancers were right on point. It was wonderful. All the choreographing was exceptional,” said Mr. Broderick, a supervisor of arm security.
Shen Yun, based in New York, is on a mission to present “China before communism,” and revive people’s connection with 5,000 years of Chinese civilization and culture.
“I think the history is everything because both Fiony and I are big history buffs, and just to see the history of it is heartwarming and just fantastic that you’re carrying on the legacy,” Mr. Broderick said.e
Shen Yun’s artists are trained in classical Chinese dance, one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.
“It was magical. It was absolutely delightful. I’m a fashion designer, so I really enjoyed all the costumes. They were just so beautiful. I couldn’t get over how gorgeous all of them were,” Ms. Broderick said.
The Shen Yun Orchestra, which tours with Shen Yun, is a unique combination of traditional Chinese instruments and a classic Western ensemble.
The erhu soloist enchanted Ms. Broderick.
“That was just gorgeous. I couldn’t get over that,” she said.
Eddie Ortega and his wife, Aida Ortega, were also in the audience this evening.
“When we were kids, we remember China to be a civilization that had a beautiful culture. The dancers doing this are amazing. It is something that needs to be done,” said Mr. Ortega, a software developer.
Today’s society is caught up in material assets, but Mr. Ortega believes that Shen Yun is reminding the audience to look beyond that.
“This performance is telling you to look inside. What we have in our soul is more important than what is around the world. This is just a passage we do in life. So the important thing is the soul. That’s what I see from the show.”
Shen Yun uses dance and music to expose the truth of Falun Dafa practitioners following the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. Despite their goodness, they are being persecuted for their faith in present-day China.
“Those principles are very important and needed in today’s life,” Mr. Ortega commented.
