What does it actually mean to be brain-dead?

According to the scientific definition, when a person is brain-dead, they become legally dead, but their bodies can still carry signs of life.

Brain death happens when someone falls into a permanent coma, loses their brain-managed reflexes and consciousness, and can’t breathe without machine support.

Yet, the body can still do surprising things.
