House Votes 209–201 to Push Off Impeachment of DHS Secretary Mayorkas

The House voted 209–201 on Monday to send Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-Ga.) resolution to impeach Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas back to the Homeland Security Committee, with eight Republicans voting alongside Democrats.

The move pushed the measure to the sideline for the time being, and prevented Mr. Mayorkas from becoming the first cabinet secretary in 147 years to be impeached.

In a floor speech before the vote, Ms. Greene cited record numbers of illegal immigrants entering the United States from the southern border and an influx of drugs, and accused Mr. Mayorkas of a pattern of conduct that is “incompatible with the laws of the United States.”
