House Judiciary Committee Holds Hearing on ‘Sanctuary Laws’

The House Judiciary Committee holds a hearing titled “The Continuing Tragedy of Sanctuary Laws” at 10 a.m. ET on Sept. 15.

Witnesses:

• Elizabeth Carter, mother of William Micah Carter, who was killed in November 2025 by an illegal immigrant truck driver who had been issued a commercial driver’s license in California.

• Anatoly Varfolomeev, father of Anya Varfolomeev, who was killed by an illegal immigrant drunk driver in California in November 2021.

• Frederick Akshar II, sheriff of Broome County, New York, and plaintiff in a lawsuit challenging one of New York’s sanctuary laws.
