Maine Secretary of State Discusses Why She Ruled Trump Ineligible From Presidential Ballot
Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows revealed her reasoning for deciding to rule former President Donald Trump ineligible to appear on the 2024 Presidential Ballot while talking to a CNN reporter from Augusta, Maine.
Ms. Bellows says she based her decision on an insurrection clause within the Constitution’s 14th Amendment, similar to Colorado’s Supreme Court Majority’s claims when they knocked the Republican primary front-runner from contention in that state.
However, Ms. Bellows’s office said her decision would not be enforced until the courts weigh in, “given the compressed timeframe, the novel constitutional questions involved, the importance of this case, and impending ballot preparation deadlines.”
The decision will go to Maine’s Superior Court next.
