‘Meta Knows All of This’: States Announce Lawsuits Against Meta for ‘Knowingly’ Targeting Children With Addictive Features

California Attorney General Rob Bonta and a bipartisan group of attorneys general announced legal action against Meta, the parent company of the social media platforms Instagram and Facebook, at a press conference on Tuesday.

Attorneys general for 33 states filed a federal lawsuit against Meta in California earlier in the day, while eight filed lawsuits in their respective state courts, according to Mr. Bonta.

“Our bipartisan investigation has arrived at a solemn conclusion: Meta has been harming our children and teens, cultivating addiction to boost corporate profits,” Mr. Bonta said. “Today, we draw the line. We must protect our children online. We will not back down from this very important fight.”
