Official: ICE Officer Shot Man in NYC Because Officers Believed Their Lives Were in Danger; Hurricane Isaias Strengthens to Major Category 3 Storm
Federal immigration officers opened fire on a Dominican man in New York City because he drove his car into officers’ vehicles and they believed their lives were in danger, a senior Immigration and Customs Enforcement official said Friday.
Officers used their vehicles to block the man as he tried to drive away, but he accelerated toward them, Marcos Charles said during a news conference with Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin in Washington. The Department of Homeland Security said the news conference was about the “dangerous consequences of sanctuary city policies.”
U.S. weather forecasters on Friday morning said Hurricane Isaias is now a Category 3 major storm with 120 mph winds, with just hours to go before it makes landfall along the northern Gulf coast. An update posted at 8:20 a.m. ET by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) shows the storm is about 240 miles south of Pensacola, located on Florida’s Panhandle region, and 170 miles south-southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River.
