Speaker Johnson Warns Current Government Shutdown Could Be Longest Ever; Trump to Host Argentina’s Milei at White House

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said on Oct. 13 that he thinks the ongoing federal government shutdown might become the longest in the nation’s history, and that he “won’t negotiate” with Democrats until they abandon their health care demands to reopen. Johnson said he wasn’t aware of the details surrounding the Trump administration’s laying off thousands of federal workers during the lapse in funding.

President Donald Trump will host Argentine President Javier Milei at the White House on Tuesday in what will be their second meeting in a month. Milei is facing market turmoil and preparing for the midterm elections in Argentina.
