State Department: ‘Strong, Robust Package’ of Sanctions Will Be Placed on Russia

State Department Spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters at a Wednesday press conference that the sanctions against Russia to be announced on Friday will be “strong” and “robust” as he answered questions about the sanctions regime already in place against Vladimir Putin’s Russia.

Mr. Miller said the new sanctions will be in response to both the second anniversary of Russia’s attack on Ukraine and the recent death in prison of Alexei Navalny.
