By dominating 5G standards at international standard-setting agencies, Huawei could pocket licensing fees from mobile-service providers and governments that use its 5G technology.

Last November, Huawei opened its Bonn Security Innovation Lab. Via this lab, Huawei can work closely with BSI, Deutsche Telekom, and other players in the business to expand its market share in 5G.

Unlike the United States, Canada has not banned Huawei from its 5G network or technological community.

While Huawei decided to leave the U.S. inverter market in 2019—the year its 5G telecoms equipment was banned—it remains a dominant supplier elsewhere. Huawei declined to comment.

Huawei, once a leader in 5G technology, is now being overtaken by 6G technology, which is likely to use LEO satellites as repeater stations.

Huawei is banned from selling 5G phones in India. The brand has also been banned or restricted in the United States and Europe.
