UPDATE: According to an Air Force Times report, the sheriff’s office said the situation was contained as of noon EST, and that the shooter is no longer active. This was a specific situation, not terrorism; the commanding officer of a training squadron at the base was shot by an airman in an apparent murder-suicide.

Several media outlets are reporting that the large police presence at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas is due to an active shooter situation.

The sheriff’s office said the incident has been unfolding at the base, which is right off the freeway, since around 9 a.m.

San Antonio Police have also responded.
