NEW YORK—High Stakes Testing 101, a panel organized by PS 146, The Brooklyn New School, and the Brooklyn School for Collaborative Studies, will take place at 610 Henry St. in Brooklyn Monday night, at 6:30 p.m.

Many educational organizations are bringing informational handouts, books, DVDs, and other material to help families understand the impact of high stakes teaching on their children, as well as schools and teachers. One of the organizers, the Grassroots Education Movement, led the Change the Stakes campaign last year to raise awareness of the negative effects of high stakes testing, such as closing down schools.

The panel, moderated by education reporter Meredith Kolodner, will include Shael Polakow-Suransky from the NYC Department of Education, principal of the Wheatley School Sean Feeney, and former principal of the James Baldwin Expeditionary Learning School, Elijah Hawkes.

The event is free, with a Q&A session to follow, and requires an RSVP to rsvp@bns146.org.
