Charlie Weis has agreed to become the 37th head football coach in KU history, according to a report on the school’s website. The school will officially introduce Weis at a press conference on Friday.

Weis, 55, last held head coaching duties at Notre Dame, his alma mater, from 2005-09 going 35-27 in five seasons. The Fighting Irish made three bowl appearances in his brief tenure, losing two of them.

Following his time at Notre Dame, Weis was an offensive coordinator in the NFL for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2010 before joining Will Muschamp’s staff at the University of Florida for the 2011 season.

The job at Kansas may be a difficult one. Former head coach Turner Gill recruited relatively well, however his teams lost 19 of 24 games the past two seasons.
