
According to Cuba's state news agency, Castro organized the meeting to discuss issues of interest in international affairs. The meeting was attended by current Cuban President Raul Castro, and Ricardo Alarcon, president of the legislature.
It has been four years since Fidel Castro’s resignation from Cuban leadership, when he handed over power to his younger brother Raul Castro due to serious illness. Fidel Castro formally stepped down in February 2008 and Raul Castro took office. However, Fidel has remained the First Secretary of the Communist Party.
Early last month, Fidel Castro made his first public appearance since his illness and his activities and appearances have been regularly reported on since then.
Fidel Castro turns 84 this month.
