Justin Bieber has numerous accolades under his belt, including a Grammy Award, 18 MTV Europe Music Awards, and 16 Teen Choice Awards. During the May 22 live broadcast of the Billboard Music Awards, Bieber picked up another award as winner of Top Male Artist to add to his trophy collection.
However, Bieber apparently isn’t a fan of award shows, referring to such events as “hollow.”
The singer took to Instagram the following day to air his grievances out with award shows.
“No disrespect to anybody at any of the shows or the people running it. Nothing but love for you guys and your support. But I don’t feel good when I’m there nor after,” he wrote. “I try to think of it as a celebration but can’t help feeling like people are rating and grading my performance.”
Bieber took a pause from his Purpose Tour to grace the Las Vegas stage where he performed “Company” and “Sorry” during last night’s festivities.
“A lot of people in the audience there to be seem worried about how much camera time they will get or who they can network with,” he said. “When I’m doing a regular show I feel they are there for the right reasons and to strictly have a good time! But these award shows seem so hollow.”
He continued, “I am privileged and honored to be recognized by my peers in but in these settings I can’t feel the recognition. There’s an authenticity missing that I crave! And I wonder does anybody else..”
Bieber’s usage of Instagram as an outlet to express his thoughts is becoming a common occurrence.

On May 10, Bieber shared with fans that he will no longer grant fans the opportunity to snap a photo him.
“If you happen to see me out somewhere know that I’m not gonna take a picture. I’m done taking pictures,” the artist wrote on the photo sharing platform. “It has gotten to the point that people won’t even say hi to me or recognize me as a human. I feel like a zoo animal, and I wanna be able to to keep my sanity.”
He added: “I realize people will be disappointed, but I don’t owe anybody a picture.”
