Jonathon Niese gave up four first-inning runs and seven in seven innings as the Mets (46-40) got shut out by the Cubs (33-52) 7 – 0, at Citi Field, in their final game before the All-Star break.

The game—which featured zero walks for either team—was marked by a noticeably sizeable strike zone. “As the game went along we pretty much realized that the strike zone was pretty good today.” said Mets manager Terry Collins.

Niese settled down after the first inning, where he gave up hits to five of the first six batters, until giving up a three-run home run to Starlin Castro in the seventh.

Meanwhile on offense, the Mets managed eight hits off five Cubs pitchers but were unable to score any of them. Collectively New York was 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
