The Queen’s Baton Comes to Toronto

Mayor of Toronto David Miller places the Queen's Baton into its holder at Metro Hall in Toronto on April 14th during the Toronto leg of the Queen's Baton Relay for XIX Commonwealth Games. The Games are scheduled to be held in Delhi, India, Oct 3-14, 2010.

 

 

 

 

Mayor David Miller holds Shera, the mascot of the XIX Commonwealth Games. On Miller’s right is Preeti Saran, Consul General of India. The name Shera comes from the Hindi word Sher, meaning tiger. In Indian mythology, the tiger is associated with Goddess Durga, the embodiment of Shakti (or female power) and the vanquisher of evil. Shera embodies values esteemed in India: majesty, power, charisma, intelligence, and grace.
