Ukraine’s high court said Tuesday that it would postpone an appeal submitted by former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who was jailed last year over corruption charges.

The Higher Specialized Court of Ukraine, which handles both criminal and civil cases, said it postponed Tymoshenko’s appeal of the sentence of misusing her office when she was in power to secure a gas deal with Russia, the Interfax news agency reported.

Tymoshenko’s hearing will now take place on July 12, which is after the Euro 2012 final. It was originally to take place June 26.

However, the court said the reason for the postponement was because she needs to undergo a medical examination, the news agency said.

During her trial, Tymoshenko alleged that the charges against her were merely created by President Viktor Yanukovych, whom she opposed after he took power.

Her trial and conviction sparked outrage among several Western governments, including the United States. Several European politicians have boycotted the Euro 2012 matches that are being held in Ukraine.

The former prime minister also accused her prison guards of beating her and punching her in the stomach, prompting her to go on a hunger strike in protest.

On Tuesday, her lawyer told Reuters that there is little hope for Tymoshenko’s case. “There can be no justice for Tymoshenko, so all the hopes of Tymoshenko’s defense lie beyond Ukraine’s borders,” Serhiy Vlasenko said, referring to Western pressure on Ukraine.
