Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love is out six to eight weeks with a broken right hand, according to a report on the NBA’s website.

Love, who played in the Olympics this summer, broke the third and fourth metacarpals on his shooting hand in a workout Wednesday morning.

The 6-foot-10-inch Love averaged 26 points per game while hauling in 13.3 rebounds per contest last season—his fourth—in Minnesota. During the season, the 24-year-old UCLA alum signed a four-year $60 million extension.

The blow is especially crushing for Minnesota who will already be without starting point guard Ricky Rubio, who tore his ACL last season, for the first six weeks of the season. The Timberwolves first game is a home game against Sacramento on Nov. 2.

The Timberwolves will most likely look to second-year forward Derrick Williams to step up in Love’s absence. Williams averaged 8.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game as a rookie last year.
