It’s good to see Kraak & Smaak have never been hindered by their silly name in the way that, say, Crazy Penis were. Like the Nottingham house pioneers (who sensibly retitled themselves Crazy P) they trade in funky, soulful, well produced house, and low-slung downtempo and breaks. Dutch threesome K&S have built themselves a formidable remix reputation over the last few years, and their sound has evolved to take on a mature, electronic edge. Here they collaborate with house legend Romanthony and renowned New York funk singer Lee Fields. It’s remarkably accessible and eclectic, and funks like a train, but lacks the bite to make it a stone cold classic.
