Dear Next Generation: You’ll Get as Good as You Give

BY Dear Next Generation TIMEJune 30, 2025 PRINT

I want to share some time-honored facts I’ve learned in my 88 years. It is never too late to give them some thought.

When you continually give out, you’ll most assuredly get in return. When you give out criticism, use inconsiderate language and give curt answers, and judge others, you can expect the same criticism and judgment to be directed toward you.

If you want to be treated professionally in your career, dress and treat others in this manner. If you major in minor things, you’ll never reach your major goals. Make your goals “God-sized.” God’s opinion of you is what really counts, and he is always behind you. Dream big because you have a big God.

Accept jobs you are good at and always finish a project you start with honesty and integrity. You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Keep positive-minded people as your friends. Live with gentleness and compassion. If you generate smiles, you help create a nicer world.

Remember, only you are in charge of your life.

Next generation, I hope these thoughts will help you along the paths of your life.

What advice would you like to give to the younger generations?

We call on all of our readers to share the timeless values that define right and wrong and pass the torch, if you will, through your wisdom and hard-earned experience. We feel that the passing down of this wisdom has diminished over time and that only with a strong moral foundation can future generations thrive.

Send your advice, along with your full name, state, and contact information to NextGeneration@epochtimes.com or mail it to: Next Generation, The Epoch Times, 5 Penn Plaza, Floor 8, New York, NY 10001.
