To some, making a bed is a bit of an art form. What is the best way to layer a bed? Should both a fitted and flat sheet be used or should one opt for two flat sheets instead?

While some answers lie in personal preference, there is a current trend relating to “bedscaping,” which involves paying close attention to how the layering of a bed is created.

Whether you have a twin, queen, or king bed, the same tips for creating a bed that is comfy and cozy can be applied.

First, begin with a well-made bed and a quality mattress as your foundation and then build your bedscape with the help of the following elements.

  • Feather bed or mattress topper
  • Mattress cover
  • Fitted sheet
  • Flat sheet
  • Coverlet
  • Duvet cover with insert of bedspread
  • Toss and sleep pillows
