In a heartwarming rescue, an officer in New York has adopted a dog she helped save from a hot car in Manhattan.
“This pup will never be neglected again,” NYPD 19th Precinct wrote in a tweet late July.

According to a tweet from June 18, some good Samaritans called 911 after noticing an unattended dog locked in a car on the Upper East Side of Manhattan for over two hours.
The police immediately responded and discovered a distressed dog inside a hot car with windows shut.

A video clip posted to the tweet shows the officers cracking open the vehicle window, freeing the dog, and providing it with water and treats. They then took the pup to a vet.

In a follow-up message, NYPD wrote: “Yesterday’s afternoon temps hovered in the mid-80s & on an 85° day, it only takes 10 mins for the inside of a car to reach a deadly 102°.”
They also informed netizens that it was prohibited to leave an animal unattended in a car under such dangerous conditions. Fortunately, the pup was rescued and was being cared for.
Hot car, hot dog rescue—thanks to caring NYers who saw this pup locked in a car for over 2 hours & called 911!

A month later, NYPD shared a sweet update that one of the pup’s rescuers, Officer Maharaj, had adopted him. They also thanked the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) for helping take care of the pup.
The tweet went viral, amassing over 2,000 likes and many comments from netizens expressing gratitude to the officer for giving the pup a second chance at life.
“Officer Maharaj is an angel amongst us,” wrote one of them. “Thank you for saving and adopting this fur kid!”
While another chimed in: “This is the happiest ending possible for this sweet dog!”
