Stellantis, parent company of Chrysler, announced on Dec. 1 it was recalling 72,509 Ram trucks due to a potential software failure in their instrument panel display that shows a blank screen rather than critical information such as warning lights or indicating when the vehicles are shifted into gear.
The recall notice posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website said Chrysler was recalling certain Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 pickups, model years 2025 and 2026.
According to the NHTSA, nearly 20,000 Ram 2500 three-quarter ton trucks manufactured between July 18, 2024, and July 19, 2025, were built with software that could cause the instrument panel to go blank when the vehicle is started or while driving. Just under 9,000 Ram 3500 one-ton trucks could have the faulty software, along with 103 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis, 101 Ram 4500 Cab Chassis, and 241 Ram 5500 Cab Chassis trucks. The recall report said 43,427 Ram 1500 half-ton trucks could also have the software issue.
The affected instrument panel clusters were manufactured by Marelli North America of Southfield, Michigan, the recall notices stated. Vehicles that used a different-sized instrument panel were not part of the recall.
Stellantis’ technical safety and regulatory compliance team opened an investigation into the issue on Sept. 25, the NHTSA noted. Over the next month, safety and engineering teams reviewed the issue to determine the size and scope of the issue. On Nov. 5, it identified that the problem was contained to trucks produced with the specific 12-inch instrument clusters manufactured by Marelli.
Stellantis notified its network of dealerships of the safety recall on Dec. 2, though it has not yet come up with a software remedy for the blank 12-inch instrument panel clusters on affected trucks. Dealers will inspect the displays and replace them free of charge, the NHTSA notice said.
The recall is expected to begin this month, the company’s customer service field operations stated. Owners are expected to begin receiving recall notices on Jan. 8, 2026. The NHTSA recall notice is number 25V826, and its vehicle safety hotline number is 888-327-4236.
Ram owners can contact Chrysler’s customer service department by calling 800-853-1403 and using the recall reference numbers B4C and B8C. They can also enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) into the NHTSA website to see if their truck is part of the recall.
It’s the second recall notice issued this week for Ram trucks. On Dec. 1, the NHTSA announced a recall of 1,879 model years 2019-2020 pickups because the side curtain airbags could rupture and propel shrapnel inside the vehicle.
In November, Stellantis also recalled more than 320,000 plug-in hybrid-electric Jeep Wranglers and Cherokees due to fire risk. The NHTSA said the vehicle’s battery packs could potentially catch fire, with 19 documented cases of fires starting in battery packs.
