Is Journalism Dead or Should It Be?

The Fourth Estate seems to have lost its place in American democracy. In fact, according to author and Newsweek deputy opinion editor Batya Ungar-Sargon, the media is undermining democracy. In her new book “Bad News: How Woke Media Is Undermining Democracy,” Batya suggests the media has moved from “liberal” to “woke,” leading Americans to no longer trust the institution, despite its ongoing powerful sway.

Batya Ungar-Sargon is the deputy opinion editor for Newsweek and the cohost of Newweek’s podcast “The Debate.” She has written articles for The New York Times, Washington Post, Foreign Policy, and the New York Review of Books Daily. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
