Defuse Cancer Risk by Reversing Biomarker (Early Warning Signs): Fix Cancer Risk Factors—PART 2

If we can reverse these early warning signs, can we defuse cancer risk?

Biochemical researcher Dayan Goodenowe has spent decades building systems of early disease detection. He’s conducted ovarian, colon, and pancreatic cancer clinical trials* to identify the biomarkers of cancer risk. This opens pathways to preventing and treating cancer.

The Dr. Goodenowe Research Institute has ongoing colon, pancreatic, and breast cancer studies.

Dr. Goodenowe returns to VitalSigns with Brendon Fallon to reveal systems for averting cancer risk, informed by his deep examination of the biochemistry of health and disease:

“Plasmalogens are … ether lipids. They’re molecules that we can’t get from our diet; our body makes them. The only time we get them environmentally is through … mother’s milk, during breastfeeding. … Twenty to thirty percent of your brain; 50 percent of your heart muscle is plasmalogens. … When plasmalogen levels are low, risk of cancer goes way up.”

The identification of certain cancer biomarkers goes many decades back, says Dr. Goodenowe. What’s been lacking though, is the infrastructure to make their detection and subsequent resolution widely available.

“We ran a colon cancer colonoscopy trial in Canada—a 6,000-subject trial, one of the largest ever done—using the same blood testing technology that every child born gets measured [with]. Using inborn errors of metabolism, we’re able to diagnose stage zero to stage one colon cancer in the target population with 86 percent sensitivity. This is when you have virtually 100 percent survival. It’s a simple blood test.”
