San Francisco Schools Abandon Student Detentions and Suspensions | Ann Hsu

Siyamak sits down with Ann Hsu, a former board member of the San Francisco Unified School District. She is also the founder and head of Burt Hsu Academy. Today, she will discuss her experiences overseeing public schools, and explain why they are not producing good results—despite spending billions of dollars each year.

“If you have kids who do things without consequence, then more kids are going to do the same thing. And then pretty soon, the inmates are going to be running the asylum,” Ms. Hsu said. “The teachers are very discouraged. They feel helpless. And this is why so many high school teachers are leaving the profession.”
