California Ballot Measure Aims to Reform Prop 47 | Greg Totten

One of the most important ballot initiatives this November in California is Proposition 36, which aims to reform Proposition 47.

“It changes the law in that retail theft area. The first offense remains a misdemeanor, the second offense remains a misdemeanor, but on the third offense, it becomes a felony. In the discretion of the court,” says Greg Totten, CEO of California’s District Attorneys Association.

Some experts believe that Proposition 47 has contributed to the rise in homelessness, drug addiction, and retail theft in California, while others argue that it is unrelated to these issues and that reforming Proposition 47 could negatively impact the state’s judicial system.
