The Venezuela Operation: Why the Maduro Raid Is Only the Beginning

There’s more to what’s happening in Venezuela than what we’re seeing on the surface. The country’s leader until recently, Nicholás Maduro, was captured and flown to the United States to face charges. The United States has stated that it will be briefly overseeing a transition in government in Venezuela. American warships remain stationed nearby in the Caribbean. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump is suggesting similar actions could be used against other countries tied to the drug trade.

So, it’s fair to ask: What’s really going on? Is this about regime change? Is this about oil or resources? Or is it about drugs, and stopping the cartels? Well, actually, it’s all of those. But there’s also a lot more to it.

What we’re watching take place on the surface in Venezuela is just the tip of the iceberg.
