Canada Marks Gordie Howe Bridge Opening

Canada marks the opening of a bridge connecting Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit, Michigan, ​at 11:30 a.m. ET on July 24. Canada canceled a planned cross-border ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Gordie Howe International Bridge, saying the milestone opening would now be feted only among Canadians before the bridge opens to traffic on July 27.

The $4.7 billion bridge, named after the legendary Canadian ⁠Detroit Red Wings hockey player, was paid for by Canada and had been scheduled to open in June after construction began in 2018. It’s ​meant to be a faster alternative to the existing Ambassador Bridge across the Detroit River.
