America Is Barreling Toward ‘Cultural Revolution’ as Pro-Palestinian Protests Sweep Campuses: Xi Van Fleet

The full death toll attributable to the Chinese Communist Party is still unknown. Some estimates put the number killed by Mao Zedong alone at over 70 million. Others put the number higher, through his various socialist movements in China. Among the worst was the Cultural Revolution, which lasted from 1966 until Mao’s death in 1976. During that time, the country saw a normalization of violence. And there are shocking similarities between what people at that time experienced, and what’s happening right now in the United States. This is especially so as tensions over the Israel–Hamas conflict reach a boiling point.

Xi Van Fleet, a survivor of Mao’s Cultural Revolution and author of the upcoming book “Mao’s America: A Survivor’s Warning,” is sounding an alarm for Americans. She says that with the recent protests we’ve witnessed in the United States, those who justify the violence of Hamas today can easily become the Hamas of tomorrow.
