Durham Bombshell Reveals Palace Coup Against America

The report from special counsel John Durham has finally been released to the public, and the American people are now learning the truth about the FBI’s “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation into Donald Trump, both when he was a candidate and when he became president of the United States. It turns out that the Trump–Russia claims were false, and that the investigations were deeply flawed. We’ll discuss what these new findings mean for the country.

Meanwhile, Lee Smith joins us to comment on the Durham report and on what it will mean for the FBI’s other investigations into Trump leading into the 2024 elections. He’s the host of “Over the Target” on EpochTV, and author of “The Plot Against the President: The True Story of How Congressman Devin Nunes Uncovered the Biggest Political Scandal in US History.”

Q&A with Josh: Why Durham Report Proves America Was Defrauded

Good evening, and welcome to Crossroads!

The American people were defrauded in one of the greatest disinformation campaigns ever perpetrated. News outlets that pushed the fake news were given awards, while journalists who reported the truth were censored and harassed. Politicians used this to grandstand about foreign threats and the attacks on “democracy,” all while peddling false information to undermine America’s elections. And to top it off, politicized investigations, using fraudulent information, were used in an attempt to remove a sitting president from office.

This is of course about the fake claims that Trump had colluded with Russia to undermine the 2016 elections. We’ve now learned that the evidence in the case was just fabricated opposition research. We’ve now learned that many people knowingly peddled this false information, and even lied to make it seem evidence existed when it did not. And we’ve just recently learned that the FBI launched its investigations on false premises. That’s right, false premises. We also saw how this was used to appoint Special Counsel Robert Mueller to investigate then-President Trump. And we even saw how all of this was used for election interference, and for a scheme to try to remove President Trump from office.
In other words, what was just watched was a palace coup, in the truest sense of the phrase. Or at least, an attempted palace coup. A coup d’état is a seizure and removal of a government and its power. A place coup is a specific form of coup d’éta that involves an overthrow of a government from the inside. It’s where one faction of the government displaces another faction.

I was among the first journalists to call out the scandal for what it was. This started with an Epoch Times article in May 2017 titled ‘Despite Allegations, No Evidence of Trump–Russia Collusion Found.’
This was followed by deeper investigations myself and others did at The Epoch Times, which revealed the full story. We also published several now-famous investigative infographics, authored by Epoch Times host Jeff Carlson, detailing how the scandals unfolded, and who was involved. For doing this we were attacked. We were labeled as a news outlet of “QAnon” conspiracies. We were censored by social networks and by ad networks. But what we reported has since been proven true.
Establishment news outlets, meanwhile, did the opposite. New York Times and Washington Post even won Pulitzers for their investigations into the now-debunked Trump-Russia story.
New York Times even wrote in 2019—in a statement I think they should now seriously consider retracting—“We’re proud of our Pulitzer-prize winning reporting on Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election. Every @nytimes article cited has proven accurate.”
Trump, meanwhile, had called for their Pulitzer prizes to be rescinded. He wrote on Twitter in 2019 “So funny that The New York Times & The Washington Post got a Pulitzer Prize for their coverage (100% NEGATIVE and FAKE!) of Collusion with Russia – And there was No Collusion! So, they were either duped or corrupt? In any event, their prizes should be taken away by the Committee!”
And in case you’re wondering what Adam Schiff had to say about all this, The Epoch Times asked him today. And yes, he said that there was, in fact, evidence of Trump-Russia collusion.

He told us “If you read Mr. Durham’s report, what he said is that there wasn’t evidence of collusion before they began the investigation. That’s obviously a very important distinction.”
So what actually took place? Let’s dig into this. Before Trump left office in 2020, his Attorney General Bill Barr appointed a Special Counsel to investigate “Crossfire Hurricane.”

“Crossfire Hurricane” was the codename for the counterintelligence investigation of the FBI that was looking into the alleged links between Russian officials and associates of Donald Trump. It led to spy operations and fake media hit pieces against Trump and his associates, and even to arrests of people close to him. Like for example, the pre-dawn raid on Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort.

This all started when Trump was still a Presidential candidate, and it continued through most of his presidency. It undermined his campaign, and undermined his ability to govern as president.

It turned out though that the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane investigation was launched using the “Steele Dossier,” which it turned out was phony opposition research from the Clinton Campaign and the DNC, the Democratic National Committee. In other words, fake and partisan opposition research was used to weaponize the FBI to mislead voters in the 2016 elections, and to shroud Trump’s presidency in manufactured controversy.
Then they used the FBI’s fraudulent investigation to get Special Counsel Robert Mueller appointed from 2017 to 2019, in an outright attempt to remove a sitting President from office, or to possibly even recommend criminal charges against him. In most countries, again, this would be considered an attempted palace coup.

And then Mueller’s fraudulent investigation was used to mislead American voters on the next two elections.

First was the midterm elections in 2018, where Democrats won 41 seats in the House of Representatives. Again, what do you call it when a faction uses a stratagem to displace another faction? And their displacement wasn’t even satisfied with the taking of congress. This gave them the majority they needed to impeach Trump, and impeach Trump they did. In fact, he became the first president to be impeached twice.

Then there was the 2020 elections. Everything else aside, the “Russian disinformation” narrative was extended by the Biden campaign, and by former leaders in the intelligence community, to again mislead American voters, and to censor the American press. They concocted fraudulent claims that the stories on Hunter Biden’s laptop, that’s the laptop of President Joe Biden’s son, looked like “Russian disinformation.” This was used to suppress legitimate news reports on the story, which polls showed could have flipped enough votes to change the outcome of the elections.

And this all brings us to where we are now. Special Counsel John Durham just released his report, four years in the making, into what just took place. And his conclusion is that the FBI launched the Crossfire Hurricane investigation on false premises. They didn’t interview people connected before launching the investigation. They used unvetted claims, they rushed it, they mishandled it, and they violated their own standards.

The 316 page report details serious abuses of power, and serious abandonment of common practice. It notes in particular that “There was a complete lack of information from the Intelligence Community that corroborated the hypothesis upon which the Crossfire Hurricane investigation was predicated.” It shows that “The FBI was willing to make use of the completely unvetted and uncorroborated Steele reporting” in its multiple spy requests on American citizens. It says they were unable to corroborate any claims from the Steele dossier, in fact. It also shows that the Clinton campaign financed and pushed much of the evidence, including false evidence, which the FBI just accepted.

The list of problems goes on and on. What it essentially says is that the whole thing was fake. Of course, it also doesn’t recommend any charges. So we’ll see what, if anything gets changed. But changed or not, the impact on public opinion could be big. And there’s still a chance for accountability.

President Trump reacted on Truth Social, stating “WOW! After extensive research, Special Counsel John Durham concludes the FBI never should have launched the Trump-Russia Probe! In other words, the American Public was scammed, just as it is being scammed right now by those who don’t want to see GREATNESS for AMERICA!”

The FBI, meanwhile, publicly acknowledged the problems in the investigation. But it doesn’t sound like they plan to change anything else. They claimed in a public statement, “The conduct in 2016 and 2017 that Special Counsel Durham examined was the reason that current FBI leadership already implemented dozens of corrective actions, which have now been in place for some time.”

The problem with that? Well, we’ve seen ongoing issues with the FBI. This is part of the reasons why House Republicans are leading investigations into the FBI and the alleged weaponization of the government. And you can expect this to play big in the 2024 elections. Especially when many Republican candidates are calling for the reform, or outright shutdown, of the FBI.

And again, this goes right back to the big elephant in the room. This wasn’t just a fumbled investigation. This was a political scandal perpetrated through collusion between a political campaign, a political party, the intelligence community, the media establishment, and by big tech that worked hand in hand to undermine elections, launch political takeovers, and attempt to remove a sitting President from office. If this happened in any other country, we have a name for operations like this. We’d call it a palace coup.
