How Twins’ Autism Shifted After Detox of Home, Diet, Lifestyle

The rate of autism has skyrocketed beyond what it was just a few decades ago. Are doctors better at diagnosing it, or are environmental factors at play?

Watch our exclusive episode, only on NTD.

“Of course, we are better diagnosing it. That’s a small part of it,” says integrative pediatrician Dr. Joel “Gator” Warsh. “But you don’t go in the last twenty years from one in 250 … to one in 22 without it occurring more.”

What explains the dramatic rise in autism? While Warsh says genetics may play a role, he says toxins play a larger one. “There’s no way it’s just genetic,” he says. “I think the reason why we’re seeing it so frequently and so rapidly increasing is because a large portion of it, for many kids and many families, is environmental.”

Harmful ingredients in vaccines, processed foods, and everyday medications may contribute to the toxic burden on one’s body.

Studies show even where you live may put your child at an increased risk for autism. “There’s this buildup of chemicals and toxins in the body, and at some point, we just can’t handle it.”

Warsh joins “Vital Signs with Brendon Fallon” to highlight key toxins that may trigger autism and the scope for recovery through reducing toxic exposure.

He points to one study showing how environmental and lifestyle changes reversed autism symptoms in two children.

“It doesn’t mean that’s going to be possible for everybody, but the fact that you can do that means there are some environmental factors playing a part for certainly some kids, and for those kids, why would we not try to do whatever we can to help,” says Warsh.

Warsh is a board-certified pediatrician and founder of Integrative Pediatrics and Medicine in Studio City, California. He is the author of “Parenting at Your Child’s Pace: The Integrative Pediatrician’s Guide to the First Three Years.”
