Inflation Slows in January as Gas Prices Fall; Rubio: Zelenskyy Meeting Is Likely at Munich Conference

Inflation dropped to 2.4 percent in January, down from 2.7 percent in December and not too far from the Federal Reserve’s 2 percent target. Core prices rose just 2.5 percent in January, down from 2.6 percent the previous month and the smallest increase since March 2021, as apartment rental price growth slowed and gas prices fell.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Feb. 12 he would have a chance to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at this week’s Munich Security Conference. Rubio made the comment to reporters before he departed from Washington for the conference.
