Oil prices plunge as the United States chooses not to strike Iran for the third straight night in a row as President Donald Trump pushes for a diplomatic end to the conflict. On Monday, the Trump administration asked the Supreme Court to allow an executive order limiting mail-in voting to move forward. The emergency appeal comes after a lower court upheld a decision blocking the president’s order ahead of November’s midterm elections.
The Pentagon is cutting off dozens of prominent Chinese universities from the Department of War’s funding. It cites concerns that American research is helping fuel Beijing’s military build-up. The Department of War announced the designation on July 23 in an update to a roster of academic and research institutions that it has determined to be risky to American research and intellectual property.
The Trump administration is expanding its legal campaign against state laws that provide certain benefits to illegal immigrants, after an Illinois federal court ruling last week that providing in-state tuition to illegal immigrants in conflict with a federal law violated the U.S. Constitution’s Supremacy Clause and is “unconstitutional and invalid.” The DOJ argued the state unlawfully allowed certain illegal immigrant students to receive in-state tuition while requiring out-of-state U.S. citizens to pay higher tuition.
