The Chinese communist party’s (CCP’s) monopoly over rare earth minerals could soon be broken. The CCP has been expanding government control over its rare earth industry, effectively bringing the entire sector under state control. Yet as the CCP has tried restricting the availability of the precious materials to other countries, they have become the new focus of a global trade war.
