Dubbed the “Freedom Convoy,” trucks began arriving in Ottawa on Jan. 28 and 29 to stage a protest against federal COVID-19 vaccine mandates for truckers travelling between Canada and the United States.

The protest evolved into a larger movement against pandemic mandates and restrictions, with parallel protests being held at several Canada-U.S. border crossings.

Hillier was released on bail on several conditions, including being banned from posting on social media about the Freedom Convoy protests, COVID-19 mask or vaccine mandates, or the “anti-vaccine cause.”

She noted this movement had similarities to many of the protests against COVID-19 jabs in that it was “not anti-vaccine really but anti-mandate.”

Meanwhile, in Australia, recent months have also seen an uptick in protest activity and petitions against government-mandated restrictions, vaccine mandates, and passports.

Solidarity With Canada The People's Convoy was inspired by trucker convoys in Canada that protested against COVID-19 restrictions and vaccine mandates since late January for about three weeks.

Police and firefighters in recent weeks have joined the tens of thousands of protesters against the city's mandates, including a protest where demonstrators marched across the Brooklyn Bridge in late October.

The Freedom Convoy protest of 2022 began as a demonstration against mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations for truckers traversing the Canada-U.S. border, but became a larger movement opposing various pandemic-related mandates and restrictions.

As a result, calls against lockdowns and vaccine mandates around the country have become increasingly louder, and protests and demonstrations against the health measures continue.
