Title 42 will end on May 23.  Some are warning that this will create a greater crisis at the border.  Among them is the head of the Border Patrol union and Florida's governor.

The Biden administration plans to end Title 42, which enables the quick expulsion of many illegal immigrants, on May 23.

New York City has seen an influx of more than 100,000 people over the past year following a surge of illegal entries along the Mexican border related to the end of the pandemic-era Title 42 policy, as reports of a porous border continue.

A minority of the arrests, about 42 percent, led to expulsions under Title 42, a pandemic-era authority that the Biden administration has been forced to keep in place because of not giving adequate notice to the public.

“Migrants who cannot be expelled under Title 42 are placed into immigration proceedings,” said White House press secretary Jen Psaki last week.

The Biden administration has defended the Title 42 policy as being necessary to curb the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the CCP virus.

Until Oct. 12, Venezuelans weren't subject to Title 42 border expulsions, as neither their home country nor a third country such as Mexico was willing to receive them.

Of course, the Biden administration has been trying to discontinue Title 42, a policy change that would only make things worse.

The Biden administration also wants to halt Title 42 enforcement effective May 23, though a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order against that decision in a separate legal battle.

The Title 42 public health order that was imposed under President Trump gave the government the power to automatically expel illegal immigrants.

During April, almost 94,700 illegal immigrants (almost 70,000 of whom were Mexican nationals) were quickly expelled under Title 42, while 107,310 were processed under Title 8 immigration law and ushered into the United States.

Walensky said that there "is no longer a public health reason to bar people from entering this country," defending her decision to rescind Title 42, which enables quick expulsion of illegal immigrants on grounds they may have COVID-19.

“The administration has not signaled if and when it might end the Title 42 policy,” Kocher said.

The agency said the majority, more than 112,000, were expelled under the Title 42 emergency health provision.

Greg Abbott asked that additional DPS officers be deployed in border cities ahead of the expiration of the Trump-era Title 42 immigration policy.

Most of the illegal immigrants will be expelled under the CDC's Title 42 authority, and others who are in the United States illegally and can't be expelled under Title 42 will be placed in expedited removal proceedings, the DHS said.

Impasse House Republicans passed H.R. 2—dubbed the “Secure the Border Act”—in June amid the expiration of Title 42 to address the growing crisis at the border.

The introduction of the Border Safety and Security Act comes only two months before the expiration of Title 42, an order used by both the Biden and Trump administrations to deport some of the migrants at the southern border owing to the COVID-19 outbreak

"The administration's decision to roll back Title 42 is wrong and reckless," Ryan said on Wednesday.
