The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) reportedly sent more than 1,700 warplanes into Taiwan's air defense zone in 2022, according to a report, as the CCP intensified pressure on the self-governing island.

The TRA authorizes the United States to continue “commercial, cultural, and other relations” with Taiwan, as well as to provide the island with military equipment for its self-defense.

However, Taiwan has been self-governing since 1949 and has never been controlled by the CCP. Moreover, its democratic government and thriving market economy make it a vital trade partner with numerous nations, including the United States.

“Taiwan has a strong navy. There must be more interaction between Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force ships and Taiwanese navy ships to avoid accident situations,” said Takei.

Following the meeting, Beijing deployed warships into the waters around the self-governed island and flew aircraft into the island’s air defense identification zone, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense said on Friday.

President Lai’s remarks come as the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) becomes increasingly hostile toward Taiwan, a self-ruled island that the Chinese regime claims as its territory.

She said the bedrock of the bilateral relationship remains with the Taiwan Relations Act, a law that authorizes the United States to provide the island with military equipment for self-defense.

He added that their arrival in a military transport aircraft was a signal of “support Taiwan's self-defense" to "deter the Chinese regime’s military adventures,” Su added.

China claims Taiwan as its territory, even as the island has been self-governing since 1949, and China has never governed Taiwan.

Taiwan's defense ministry said multiple Chinese military ships, aircraft, and drones were simulating attacks on the island and its navy. It said it had sent aircraft and ships to react "appropriately."

In all, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force has had to scramble jets about 700 times over the past year to protect its airspace. The PLA flights and naval transits are meant to test the military readiness of Japan and Taiwan.

The Chinese aircraft and vessels were detected at roughly 6 a.m. local time, prompting Taiwan to deploy aircraft, navy vessels, and land-based missile systems in response, according to Taiwan's defense ministry.

As of 5 p.m. local time on Aug. 15, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense reported five Chinese military warships and 30 aircraft in and around the Taiwan Strait.
