On July 2, Taiwan PresidentTsaiIng-wen of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) also expressed her support for the protests.
Foreign Policy noted on Jan. 22 that Beijing has been successfully blocking Taiwan from participation in international organizations since 2016, when PresidentTsaiIng-wen was first elected.
Taiwan PresidentTsaiIng-wen said there was no cause for alarm.

On March 9, Taiwan PresidentTsaiIng-wen wrote in a tweet that body samples of suspected patients sent from the island nation of Palau have tested negative. The South Pacific island is one of Taiwan’s 14 diplomatic allies.
China has stepped up pressure on Taiwan, whose PresidentTsaiIng-wen is suspected by Beijing of pushing for the island's formal independence, a red line for China which has never renounced the use of force to bring Taiwan under its control.
This rejection was linked to supporting opposition by Taiwan PresidentTsaiIng-wen, who has been strengthened by her reelection in January and her leadership in preventing massive deaths from the CCP virus, commonly known as the novel coronavirus.
The detention also came two days before Taiwan PresidentTsaiIng-wen stayed in New York for two nights on July 11, while in transit to the Caribbean, a trip that has angered the Chinese regime, which views the self-ruled democratic island as a wayward

Taiwan has lost seven diplomatic allies to China since PresidentTsaiIng-wen took office in 2016. Beijing suspects Tsai of pushing for the island's formal independence, which Xi has warned would lead to a "grave disaster."
He added the best way forward was to introduce a "one country, two systems" arrangement, a proposal rejected by Taiwan PresidentTsaiIng-wen.
"Hong Kong is like a mirror (to Taiwan)," Chiu said.
If it passes the House, the TAIPEI Act will then be handed to the president to sign into law.
Taiwan PresidentTsaiIng-wen expressed her gratitude to the U.S.
Vystrcil is to meet Taiwanese PresidentTsaiIng-Wen later in the week and take part in a forum hosted by the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), the de facto U.S. embassy on the island, according to local media.
Meanwhile, Taiwan PresidentTsaiIng-wen told reporters on Wednesday that since Hong Kong has refused to handle the case, Taiwan would take the responsibility.

Taiwanese PresidentTsaiIng-wen also tweeted that she “look[s] forward to working with [Trump] administration to further the longstanding partnership between Taiwan and the United States.”
