Promoted tickets for 50 percent off for the Splendour in the Grass 2014 were part of some type of fraud and left buyers hit with charges of thousands of dollars.
The tickets went on sale on Tuesday morning .
The festival warned people via social media that the 50 percent off tickets are not valid, saying that “under no circumstances” should people buy the tickets.
A $1,100 booking fee was leveled against buyers, a fee organizers called “incorrect.” Some were hit with charges as high as $5,000.
Moshtix CEO Harley Evans told The Music that technical issues caused the reduced priced tickets and the credit card fees.
“All of these affected orders will be cancelled today, and customers contacted to allow them to purchase at the correct prices,” he said. “This was an isolated technical issue that did not affect other ticket buyers and tickets are continuing to sell fast for the festival. Anyone that is concerned they have been charged the incorrect amounts should contact moshtix at ticketsupport.moshtix.com.au.”
He claimed that no credit card information was compromised during the technical issues despite some people publishing possible evidence of a link to an offshoot of the notorious dark web site Silk Road.
All tickets for the event have been sold ot.
The festival is slated to be held from July 25 through July 27 at the North Byron Parklands.
