KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan—Accompanied by his wife, Dr. Huang Kuang-Chih, inventor of Taiwan’s first laser, and respectfully called “Taiwan’s Father of Laser” watched the Shen Yun Performing Arts show in Kaohsiung, on March 17, 2009.
Having held several important academic positions in Taiwanese universities, Dr. Huang is now a chair professor at the Cheng-Shiu University, Kaohsiung. In addition, he has been practicing Chinese martial arts more than 60 years. The World Kuoshu Federation conferred on him the highest rank,“10th Degree Certificate” and “10th Degree Sash” with the title of “Grandmaster,” an honorable title bestowed upon only five others in the world.
After watching the show, he said, “The program tonight has affected me greatly. The show is spectacular, and it blends classical Chinese dances with poems and songs. It is really an amazing performance.
“The program is truly touching. The 5,000-year Chinese culture is completely blended in the show. You can find poems in the dances, songs in the poems, and dances in the songs. All aspects are presented so perfectly. The actors and actresses are just superb. The hard work they have devoted to preparing the performance must have been tremendous. As what we frequently say: ‘A minute of performance on the stage takes a decade of hard work to prepare.’”
Dr. Huang observed Shen Yun’s performers with a professional eye. “Their body movement, gestures, and steps synchronized very well with the music and backdrops. Their shifting, turning, tuck diving, and jumping were all very beautiful. No single fault could be found in their dances. The group performance was flawless. The coordination of backdrops was extraordinarily splendid.”
As an internationally known master of technology and martial arts, Dr. Huang holds broad point of view, “Shen Yun has illustrated the majesty of Chinese history and culture so well in tonight’s show. It is enlightening and extraordinary. I hope the performance can arouse people’s hearts, and bring more peace and magnificence to the world.
“I think that such a performance has profound significance. This is what I feel this evening. I am truly moved.”
He praised Shen Yun’s vocalists saying, “The singers expressed their internal feelings in their demeanors and voices. The beauty [and the] extent of their range highly impressed me. Today’s show is very successful. Thank you very much.”
