Compared to other dancing performances, Mr. Yen also considered Shen Yun to be a breakthrough. He said, “Judged from the dancing structure, Shen Yun’s choreography has broken through the basic forms of tradition. The dances in the Shen Yun show become more vivacious. The composition of the backdrops, in terms of color as well as aesthetics, also broke through its traditional counterparts. The Shen Yun performance looks quite different. It is a major breakthrough.
“Traditional backdrops are heavier and movements of stage properties are inevitable. In contrast, Shen Yun adopt motion pictures, and the effect is even more magnificent.”
According to Mr. Yen, the critical point that enables Shen Yun to break through is that from dance to music, from actors’ costumes to the backdrop's aesthetics, all factors of the performance combine so well that they become one entity.
Mr. Yen was born in Tainan County. He graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Taiwan’s Chinese Culture University, where he received comprehensive academic training in Chinese and Western painting.
