There are some things modern medicine and science simply cannot explain.
Sure, we’ve all had situations where some minor ailment simply “goes away.” But how do you explain a blind man in a wheelchair with multiple sclerosis who develops nearly perfect vision immediately after being baptized and eventually regains the ability to walk?
That’s one of the stories in Angel Studios’s recent series “Miracle,” which explores medical situations in which divine intervention seems to be the only explanation for healing.
A Series of Stories
Created by Kimberly Clarke, each episode follows the story of a person who has something seemingly incurable yet is healed through faith and prayer. Clarke, who has no background in television production, underwent a similar experience. She had suffered from back pain for 20 years and got bad news from doctors after an MRI and CT scan. “They said, ‘You don’t have any cartilage left in your L4 and L5 vertebrae, and really the only thing you can do is have surgery.’ I didn’t want to have to have surgery. Because I’m too young for surgery. Nobody wants back surgery,” she told The Epoch Times.
Everything changed because of a chance meeting. “A friend reached out and said, ‘Hey, you’ve got to hear this woman speak. You’ll be really blown away by her story,’” Clarke said. She ended up at a small event in New Jersey and met Joanne Moody, who had experienced a miraculous healing and is now one of her partners in the series. Moody’s healing is also the focus of one of the episodes. “I heard her life story, and my mind was blown because I had never heard anything like this about miracles, physical healings,” Clarke said. “Afterwards, she prayed for my back, and my back was instantly healed. I felt electricity go through my body, and I felt an overwhelming sense of love. It was like I was blanketed in love.”
Clarke became fascinated with the whole concept of unexplained healings through prayer. “I ended up becoming fixated and captivated with what I was learning. I started researching and threw myself into understanding what had happened.” She realized she was probably like many who had no information about miraculous healings, which led to the series. “The reason I decided to do ‘Miracle’ was because I couldn’t believe that no one had ever mentioned this to me. Once I started finding out about it, then it was everywhere.”
How the series ended up with Angel Studios seems to have a bit of divine intervention as well. Clarke was invited to the National Prayer Breakfast and ended up at the table with Neal Harmon, the co-founder and CEO of Angel Studios, and others from his company. “We just chatted,” Clarke said. “I told them I’m working on this project. I didn’t know who they were. They said, ‘We’re with Angel.’ So I start telling them about ‘Miracle,’ and Neal Harmon said, ‘Can you give me seven seasons of content?’”
Stories of Miraculous Healing
Each episode looks into the medical background of a person who has experienced healing that cannot be scientifically explained. Rather than simply asking the viewer to “believe,” “Miracle” supplies the medical diagnoses and prognoses of each person before the healing to back up the stories. The series is a combination of hard facts and faith, proving that each subject had an incurable medical situation before being healed. Clarke said, “I wanted to give people facts. Here’s the story, here’s the medical evidence, here’s the proof. I don’t have to prove anything. I’m healed, and my life’s completely changed, but I want to provide that information. Just plant the seed. Hey, I’m not telling you how to feel or believe, I’m just sharing information.”
Each episode concludes with an exclusive music video from Christian artists, including Natalie Grant, Phil Wickham, and Sarah Reeves.
The first episode features neuroscientist Dr. Josh Brown, who was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor yet experienced a healing. He’s now a member of the cast.
Clarke has traveled around the world and seen miraculous healings. While shooting an episode, she met a man with knee issues who had not been able to walk for decades … and she paid it forward. “I prayed for his knee. His first knee was healed, and he burst into tears. Then I had these little kids come and join me. We all prayed for his other knee, and he was healed. He said, ‘You know, I haven’t been able to do things in so long. I haven’t gone up and down a flight of stairs in years.’ And we went up and down the stairs twice, and he cried, and we celebrated.”
The first season includes eight weekly episodes and you can watch on Angel’s website: Angel.com/watch/miracle#watch
As for Clarke’s own healing ability, she says, “God will use anyone. He is looking for the available, not the perfect, because I’m certainly not perfect. He’s used me to pray for people, and I’ve seen people healed.”
